| Junior Tutors | A Junior Tutor is simply any tutor who is not a Senior Tutor. Most are postgraduate law students on masters or professional-qualification courses, or those who have completed law school but are waiting to start full time work. |
| Senior Tutors | A Senior Tutor is one who works for, or who has previously worked for, a university or similar institution, or who has practised as a professional barrister or solicitor. Many of our senior tutors are PhD students at one of the London universities. |
| Custom Band | A tutor in the Custom Band is one with unusual or excepional teaching experience or expertise, beyond that typically associated with a Junior or Senior Tutor, coupled to a track record of delivering exceptional tutoring. Examples might include university lecturers with 10 years' teaching experience or tutors who have delivered over 1,000 hours of law tutorials. |
| Trial Lesson | A Trial Lesson is an option any student can exercise to discount his or her first hour with any tutor to £20 (1 to 1) or £30 (for groups) where that student wishes to spend that hour discussing his or her module in overview with the ultimate objective of preparing for an exam.
It is a planning and Q&A session designed to introduce a student and tutor and set an agenda for subsequent lessons. It is not a normal lesson desgined to teach a specific topic within a module. The lesson will often cover (i) the student's aims and motivations for hiring a tutor, (ii) the student's background and academic history, (iii) target grades (iv) the nature of the module, and (v) the nature of the module's assessment system. The tutor's objective is often to explain potential pathways for a student to pursue in order acheive his or her aims. If the principal aim is a target grade, that will inevitably focus on how to approach and execute the exam. To enable this, before the trial lesson a student should share with the tutor his or her module materials, including all available past and specimen exam papers. The tutor will usually look through these materials and advise on them during the lesson. A student seeking help for multiple modules will usually start their tuition with multiple trial lessons (one per specialist module tutor). So, for example, a first year LLB student might start with trial lessons for criminal law, contract law, land law and public law, with four corresponding specialist tutors. |
| 10 Hour Block Discount | Where a student books a timetable of 10 hours or more at once, with any combination of tutors, and across a time period of up to 10 weeks, a discount of £50 shall be applied to every 10th hour. The booking must be a timetable of lessons booked all at once: The discount does not apply if fewer than 10 hours are booked at once or if 10 hours or more are booked incrementally at different times. Note: The lessons are not prepaid: students are charged at the end of each lesson, one by one. It is merely the booking which is pre-set. After the booking, the student may move lessons without losing the discount. However, Bloomsbury staff may withdraw the discount at their sole discretion if 3 or more of the 10 hours of lessons are moved by the student. |
| 3, 24 or 48 Hours | A tutor's cancellation period: the minimum notice required to cancel a class without the fee being chargeable, calculated to the start time of a lesson. Cancellations are levied at the sole discretion of the tutor, not Bloomsbury. Where a tutor charges a cancellation fee, he or she is encouraged to produce revision notes or other materials in lieu of the lesson. |
